Automatic updates

Litr keeps itself up to date from elyracode.com/litr.

When it checks: 30 seconds after Litr starts, and then once a day while it runs. Each check fetches one small file, https://elyracode.com/litr/latest.json, which names the newest version. Nothing about you or your browsing is sent.
When there is a new version, a strip under the toolbar says so:
- Install downloads and installs it.
- What's New opens the release notes on the website.
- Later hides the strip until the next version.
When it is installed, the strip offers Relaunch. Your tabs are saved first and come back after the restart. Nothing restarts until you choose to.

To turn the daily check off, open settings (⌘,) and set Check for updates automatically to Off. You can still check at any time with Litr → Check for Updates….

How updates are kept safe

Before Litr replaces anything, it checks that the download:

matches the SHA-256 checksum published next to it,
is a Litr app signed with Litr's Developer ID (Wirelabs' Apple team 7G383N3VY7) and unchanged since it was signed,
is the version the website says it is.

If any check fails, nothing is replaced and the About panel says why. The old version is kept aside during the swap and put back if the new one can't be moved into place.

Updates replace Litr where it is installed, normally /Applications, so your account must be able to write there. Administrator accounts can.

Web apps

Web apps don't check for updates. When Litr is updated, it updates the web apps it created the next time it starts.

About Litr

Choose Litr → About Litr, or About Litr at the bottom of settings. The About panel shows:

the version you are running,
the website, elyracode.com/litr (click to open it in a tab),
the developer, Wirelabs AS,
the update status, with a button to check, install or relaunch.

Press Close or Esc to return to the page.
