Privacy report

The privacy report shows what ad blocking stopped: on the page you're on, and across all your tabs over the last seven days.

The shield

When Litr has blocked something on the current page, a shield with a count appears at the right end of the address bar, for example 🛡 23. Click it to open the report. You can also open it with View → Privacy Report or from the command palette.

The count starts again when a new page loads, and when you reload.

The report

  • This page lists every host a blocked request went to, such as securepubads.g.doubleclick.net, and how many requests went to each.
  • Last 7 days covers every tab and room, today included:
    • requests blocked: requests that never left your Mac,
    • trackers and ad servers: the different hosts they were meant for,
    • not downloaded: an estimate of the data saved (see below),
    • Most blocked: the ten hosts blocked most often.

Clear Report deletes the saved counts.

About the numbers

A blocked request is never downloaded, so its size can't be known. Litr estimates it at 20 KB. That's in the range of a typical mix of ad scripts (tens of kilobytes), ad images and tracking pixels (a few bytes to a few kilobytes). Treat the figure as a rough guide, not a measurement.

YouTube ads are removed by a script rather than blocked by address (see Ad blocking), so they aren't counted.

What is stored

For the weekly summary Litr stores, per day, each blocked host and how many times it was blocked. It doesn't store which pages you were on or when. Counts older than 30 days are deleted. Everything stays in Litr's database on your Mac (see Privacy and your data).

Web apps keep their own counts in their own databases.
