Getting started
Requirements
- macOS 13 Ventura or later
- A Mac with Apple Silicon
Some features need newer systems. On macOS 14 and later, background pages are fully suspended rather than only throttled.
Install
- Download Litr from elyracode.com/litr.
- Open it and drag Litr to Applications.
- Open Litr from Applications, Launchpad or Spotlight.
Litr is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning.
Litr updates itself: when a new version is out, a strip under the toolbar offers to install it (see Updates and About). Your tabs, history and settings are stored outside the app and are kept across updates.

sidebar
- Sidebar: your tabs, pinned tabs first. + opens a new tab. Downloads appear at the bottom while there are any.
- Toolbar: sidebar toggle, back, forward, reload and the address bar.
- Page: the website, with a thin glass edge around it tinted by the site's colour.
Drag the window by the toolbar or the empty part of the sidebar. Double-click the toolbar to zoom the window.
First steps
- Press ⌘L and type an address or a search, then Enter.
- Press ⌘T for a new tab and ⌘W to close one.
- Press ⌘K to open the command palette, the quickest way to do anything.
- Press ⌘, to open settings.
On the first launch, Litr spends a few seconds preparing its ad block rules. Pages load normally meanwhile and reload once blocking is ready.
Opening Litr from the command line
The binary takes an optional address:
/Applications/Litr.app/Contents/MacOS/litr example.com
The address opens in a new tab alongside your restored tabs.
