Split view

Split view

Two tabs side by side, such as the docs and the app you're building, or a ticket and the page it's about.

Opening and closing

Press ⌘\ (View → Split View). The tab you're on goes on the left and the tab you used last on the right. With no other tab, the right side gets a new, empty tab: type an address to fill it. Press ⌘\ again to go back to one tab, the one you're working in.

Working in a split

  • Click into a side to work in it. The side you're in has a blue edge, and the address bar, find (⌘F), zoom, reader mode, the assistant and the other page commands apply to it.
  • Drag the divider between the sides to change their widths.
  • Choose another tab in the sidebar and it takes the place of the side you're in; the other side stays.
  • Both tabs are highlighted in the sidebar, and neither is unloaded to save memory while they're on screen.
  • Closing either tab, or turning on the responsive view, ends the split.

The split isn't saved: after a restart you're back to one tab.
