Rooms

A room is a set of tabs for one project or one part of your day, such as "Client X" with its admin, staging site, docs and issue tracker. You switch between whole rooms at once, and the room you leave is unloaded, so it uses no memory while you work somewhere else.

Everyone starts with one room, Personal, which holds the tabs you had before rooms existed.

The room strip

The bottom of the sidebar shows a circle for each room, with its initial on its colour, and the current room's name. The current room has a ring.

Tidy Tabs… can also make rooms for you from groups of tabs that belong together.

The command palette (⌘K) has Switch to … and Move Tab to … for every other room, plus New Room… and Edit Room….

What happens when you switch

• Every tab of the room you leave is unloaded, except tabs that play sound or are in a call, which keep going in the background.
• The room you come to shows the tab you were on, straight away, from the picture Litr took when you left it. The page reloads underneath.
• The rest of its tabs load when you click them, as usual.

Each room keeps its own tabs, pinned tabs, order and active tab. They are saved with your session and come back after a restart, in the room you were in.

Web apps in a room

A room can open web apps that belong to the project. In the room's settings, turn on Web apps for each one. When you switch to the room, the apps that aren't running open in the background, without taking you away from Litr. Litr doesn't close them when you leave the room.

Deleting a room

Delete Room in the room's settings closes its tabs and removes the room; the room before it shows. The pages stay in your history. You can't delete your last room.

Closing the last tab

With more than one room, closing a room's last tab leaves it with a new, empty tab instead of closing the window.
