Focus sessions

For a while, the sites that pull you away don't open. Litr counts the times you tried, and tells you when the time is up.

Not the same as Focus Mode (⇧⌘F), which hides the sidebar and toolbar.

Starting one

Choose View → Focus Session… (or Start Focus Session… in the command palette):

1. Pick a length: 25, 50 or 90 minutes.
2. Check Sites to block. It starts with YouTube, X, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Netflix and Twitch; edit it as you like, separated with commas. A site covers its subdomains: youtube.com covers m.youtube.com and music.youtube.com.
3. Click Start (or press Enter in the list).

Litr remembers the length and the list for next time.

When the session starts, tabs on blocked sites are put away (unloaded), except tabs playing sound, so music can play on.

During the session

Focus and the time left show at the bottom of the sidebar. Click it to see the session: when it ends, what's blocked, the sites you held off and how often. Add 10 Minutes makes it longer; End Session stops it now.

When you try to open a blocked site:

• In a new tab, a restored tab or from the address bar, the tab shows "site can wait" in place of the page, with the time left.
• From a link on another page, the page stays, and a strip under the toolbar says the site is blocked.

Either way, Open for 5 Minutes lets that site through for five minutes. Afterwards its tabs are put away again. End Session ends the session.

The session goes on if you quit Litr or restart the Mac, until its time is up. Only the main page is blocked: a YouTube video embedded in another site still plays.

When it's over

A sound plays, and a strip sums up, for example: "25 minutes of focus. You held off youtube.com 3 times and reddit.com once." If you are on a tab the session kept closed, its page opens; other tabs load when you go to them. Start Another starts a new session; Done closes the strip.
