Making Litr your default browser
Open settings (⌘,) and click Make Litr the Default Browser under Default browser. macOS asks you to confirm. Afterwards links you click in Mail, Messages, Slack and every other app open in Litr, and the button says Litr is your default browser.
You can also choose it in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Default web browser. To go back, choose another browser there.
Where links open
A link from another app opens in the current room: in the tab you're on if it's empty, otherwise in a new tab, and Litr comes to the front.
Link rules
Link rules send links for chosen sites somewhere else. Open them from Settings → Link Rules…, the Litr menu, or the command palette.
A rule has a site and where its links open:
- App: … opens the link in one of your web apps, for example Jira links in the Jira app.
- Room: … switches to that room and opens the link there, for example everything from a client's domain in the client's room.
- Forget tab opens the link in a forget tab, for sites you don't want in your history or signed in.
To add one, type the site (the field starts with the current tab's site), choose where it opens, and click Add Rule or press Enter. Hover a rule and click × to delete it.
A rule covers the site and its subdomains, so example.com also covers
docs.example.com. When two rules cover a link, the more specific one wins:
jira.example.com beats example.com. Each site has one rule; adding
another replaces it.
If a rule's room or web app has been deleted, its links open in a new tab.
Good to know
- Rules apply to links from other apps. Links you click inside Litr open as usual.
- Web apps don't use link rules; a link sent to a web app opens in it.
- Other apps only send links to Litr once it's your default browser. Until then, the Link Rules panel says so.
