Tidy tabs
When tabs pile up, Tidy Tabs… suggests how to clear them: groups of tabs that belong together, which you can move to a room of their own or close, and tabs that are open twice.
Open it from Tabs → Tidy Tabs…, the command palette, or the N tabs · Tidy… hint that appears in the sidebar once a room has 12 or more ordinary tabs.
The suggestions
- Duplicates: tabs showing an address another tab already shows. Close Duplicates closes the extra copies and keeps the first.
- Groups of tabs about the same topic or project, or the same kind of
site, such as news. Each group has a name and lists its tabs, with:
- Move to New Room: makes a room named after the group and moves the tabs there, unloaded. Switch to it from the room strip or with ⌥⌘1–9.
- Close These Tabs.
- Not this one (hover a tab): leaves that tab out of the group.
Nothing changes until you click one of these. Pinned tabs and forget tabs are left alone.
How tabs are grouped
With Apple Intelligence (macOS 26 or later), Apple's on-device model groups the tabs by topic from their titles and sites. It runs on your Mac and nothing is sent anywhere. It takes a second or two, and looks at up to 40 tabs.
The model is small and can put a tab in the wrong group, so look over a group before you act on it, and use Not this one for strays.
Without the model, tabs are grouped by site instead: every site with two or more tabs open.
Group names are written in the assistant's language.
