Forget tabs
A forget tab keeps nothing. Use one to look something up without it showing in your history, to sign in to a second account, or on a shared Mac.
Open one with ⇧⌘N (File → New Forget Tab), or from the command palette.
What a forget tab doesn't keep
- History. Pages you visit aren't added to your history.
- Cookies and site data. A forget tab starts with no cookies, storage or cache, so you're signed out everywhere. Whatever sites store while you use it is kept in memory only and deleted when you close the tab.
- Your session. Forget tabs aren't saved with your tabs, so they're gone after Litr quits.
- Privacy report counts. Blocked trackers show on the shield for the page, but aren't added to the weekly summary.
It also doesn't share anything with your other tabs: sites can't see the cookies from your ordinary tabs, and the other way round.
How to tell
A forget tab has a violet window edge and toolbar, a Forget label in the address bar, and a violet badge in the sidebar.
Links and pop-ups
Links a forget tab opens in a new tab (and sign-in pop-ups) are forget tabs too. They share the first tab's cookies, so signing in through a pop-up works. Their data is deleted once the last of them is closed.
Closing them all
Close Forget Tabs (File menu, or the command palette) closes every forget tab in every room, and with them all their data.
Good to know
- Ad blocking works in forget tabs as everywhere else.
- Forget tabs can't be pinned or scheduled, since both are saved.
- Downloads are kept. They go to your Downloads folder as usual.
- A forget tab can be unloaded to save memory like any other tab. Its cookies stay until you close it.
- Forget tabs hide what you do from Litr's own records. They don't hide it from the sites you visit, your network or your employer.
