Notes

Notes are yours alone: a place to jot something down mid-conversation, keep a checklist for the day or paste a command you'll need again, without deciding which teamspace it belongs in.

They're kept on this Mac only. Nothing in them is sent to Félagi, and nobody else (not even an administrator) can see them. They're the same whichever server or workspace you're using. They aren't on the web or on your other computers; to take them elsewhere, export them.

Writing

Open Notes in the sidebar (under Chat), or choose Notes or New note in ⌘K. On the Notes page, ⌘N starts a new note.

  • The first line is the title. The list shows it, with the next line and when you last changed the note under it.
  • Everything saves as you write. There's no Save button.
  • / gives you headings, bullet and numbered lists, checklists, quotes, code blocks, tables, a divider and images.
  • Images: paste a screenshot, drop a file on the window, or choose Image in the / menu. They're kept in the note itself (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP or HEIC, up to 10 MB each).
  • A new note you leave empty is let go of when you move to another one.

A note can also start elsewhere: Save to notes on a message (right-click it) keeps what it said, with who wrote it, where and when; and the menu-bar panel (Control+Option+Space) writes a line down as a note when switched to New note with the button beside the box.

@-mentions and links to pages aren't offered in notes: nobody would be told, and the note isn't on the server.

Finding a note

The list puts pinned notes first, then Today, Previous 7 days and Earlier, each with the most recently changed at the top. Type in Search notes to narrow it down. Search looks at each note's text, and Norwegian letters work either way round (BLÅBÆR finds blåbær). ⌘K finds notes too, from anywhere in the app.

Pin a note with 📌 at the top of it, or ⋯ → Pin to top.

From a note to the team

Notes stay private until you do something with them:

  • A checklist line as an issue: right-click the line and choose Make an issue. Change the title if you like, pick a project, and it's created and assigned to you. A link to it (ACM-42) goes at the end of the line; click it to open the issue.
  • A note as a page: ⋯ → Make a Docs page … at the top of the note, then pick the teamspace. A draft page is made there, the note's first line its title and the rest its text, with its images uploaded to the page. The note itself stays as it is.

Both need you to be signed in and online; the note is sent only when you choose one of them.

Deleting

⋯ → Delete moves a note to Recently deleted (in the list's ⋯ menu), where it stays for 30 days. Open it there and choose Bring back, or Delete for good. After 30 days it's gone.

Exporting

Notes export as Markdown files, which most notebooks and editors read (Obsidian, Bear, iA Writer, Apple Notes through an import, VS Code and others).

  • One note: ⋯ → Export as Markdown… at the top of it, then choose where to save the file.
  • All of them: ⋯ → Export all as Markdown… at the top of the list, then choose a folder. A new folder, Félagi notes 2026-11-07, is made in it, with a .md file per note named after its title. Finder opens on it when it's done.

Each file starts with the note's title and dates, which notebooks such as Obsidian read, and keeps headings, lists, checklists (- [x]), code blocks, tables and links. Images become files in an images folder next to the notes, and the Markdown links to them. Each file is dated as the note was last changed.

Deleted notes aren't exported.

Where they're kept

In notes.db, in ~/Library/Application Support/felagi-desktop/. It's apart from the offline copy of your workspaces, so clearing that (or signing out) leaves your notes alone. Time Machine backs it up with the rest of your home folder. Uninstalling the app by dragging it to the Bin leaves it too; delete the folder to remove your notes for good.
