Getting started
Install
Félagi Desktop comes with your organisation's Félagi licence, so you download it from your own Félagi rather than from a public website:
- Sign in to Félagi in your browser and open Settings.
- Under Félagi Desktop, choose Download. The page shows the version, the file's size and its SHA-256 checksum.
- Open the downloaded
.dmgand drag Félagi into Applications.
The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without warnings. It runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and macOS 11 or later.
If Settings says no build is on the server yet, ask whoever runs your Félagi to add one.
Updates
The app keeps itself up to date from the same place. Shortly after it starts, and once a day after that, it asks your Félagi whether a newer version is there. When one is, a notice says so, with What's new:
- Install downloads it and checks it before anything is replaced: it must be exactly the file your server lists, and signed and notarized by Félagi Desktop's developer. Anything else is thrown away and the notice says why.
- Restart starts the new version when it suits you — never in the middle of a message. Later leaves it for now.
Updates can only be installed into an app in Applications (or another folder you can write to), not one run straight from the disk image.
When it's running you'll find it in two places:
- the window, with the sidebar on the left and what you've opened on the right;
- the Félagi icon in the menu bar (macOS) or system tray (Windows, Linux), which opens a small panel for the timer and your issues. See Tracking time.
Only one copy of the app runs at a time: opening it again brings the window forward.
Sign in
You sign in in your browser, exactly as you do on the web — with your password, two-factor code or your company's single sign-on. The app never sees your password.
- Type the address of your Félagi server, for example
felagi.company.com, and choose Continue in the browser. (https://is added for you.) - Your browser opens Félagi and shows a code. Check that it's the same code the app shows. If the browser didn't open, choose Open the browser again, or Copy code and type it in yourself.
- In the browser, choose the workspaces you want in the app and approve.
- The app signs you in and opens the first workspace.
If you deny the request in the browser, the app says so; if you wait too long, the code expires and you start again.
What the app keeps on your computer:
- one sign-in per workspace, stored in the operating system's keychain (Keychain on macOS, Credential Manager on Windows, the Secret Service on Linux), named after this computer so you recognise it among your sign-ins on the web;
- a copy of what you've read, so the app opens quickly and works offline (Working offline).
You can see and revoke the app's sign-ins on the web like any other.
Choose your language
Open Settings (⌘, on macOS, Ctrl+, on Windows and Linux, or click your name at the bottom of the sidebar) and pick Norsk (bokmål) or English. The choice is saved on your Félagi profile, so the web follows it too — and a language you chose on the web is used here the next time the app starts.
Pick a theme
Also in Settings: Félagi dark, Félagi light, Match the system, and five editor themes — Tokyo Night, Nord, Material, Palenight and Darcula. See Settings and themes.
