Workspaces and servers

Workspaces and servers

The app can hold several workspaces on one Félagi server, and be signed in to several servers at once — say your own company's Félagi and a customer's. One workspace is shown at a time.

Switching workspace

  • Click the workspace name at the top of the sidebar and pick another, or
  • press ⌘1 … ⌘9 (Ctrl+1 … Ctrl+9) for the first nine on the current server, or
  • type its name in ⌘K.

The window starts over in that workspace: its channels, issues, docs and people. A dot beside the workspace name, and a count beside a workspace in the menu, tell you something is waiting in another one — a direct message, a mention or an unread inbox item.

Adding a workspace

Workspace menu → Add a workspace. Your browser opens; approve, and choose the extra workspaces. They join the ones you have and the app opens the first new one. You stay on the same server.

Adding another server

Workspace menu → Add a server …, type its address, and sign in there in the browser as in Getting started. The new server becomes the one in use; you stay signed in to the others.

With more than one server the workspace menu lists each server by its address, with its workspaces under it. Pick a workspace on another server to switch there — nothing is signed out, and the switch is instant. Everything belongs to the server it came from: the copy kept for offline use, messages waiting to be sent, notifications and the sidebar's sections.

Signing out

Menu item What it does
Sign out of workspace Signs out of that one workspace on this computer. Your other workspaces stay. Signing out of the last workspace on a server signs you out of that server.
Sign out / Sign out of server Signs out of every workspace on the server in use. If you're signed in to other servers, the app carries on in one of them.
Sign out of every server Shown with more than one server. Signs out of everything.

Signing out revokes the app's sign-in on the server, so it can't be used again, and removes it from this computer's keychain. If the server can't be reached, the sign-in is forgotten here anyway; you can revoke it on the web.

If you have changes that haven't been sent yet (you were offline), the app refuses to sign out until they're sent, so they aren't lost. See Working offline.

When a sign-in stops working

If a workspace's sign-in is revoked on the web, expires, or you're removed from the workspace, the app drops that workspace and carries on in another — on the same server if there is one, otherwise on another server you're signed in to. Only when none is left are you asked to sign in again.
