Privacy and limits
Your data stays on your Mac
- Notr has no account, no sync and no telemetry, and makes no network connections.
- Your notebooks are in one SQLite database,
~/Library/Application Support/Notr/notr.db(with its-waland-shmcompanion files while Notr runs). Nothing else is written, except the files you export. - The database isn't encrypted. Anyone who can read your user folder can read your notes; FileVault protects them when the Mac is off.
- Back up either the database (with Notr closed) or
.notespaceexports. Time Machine includes the database.
What Notr doesn't do
- Open or save Microsoft OneNote files (
.one,.onepkg), or sync with OneDrive. - Collaborate: one Notr at a time should use a database. A second one that saves is stopped with a conflict rather than merged; see Troubleshooting.
- Recognize handwriting or text in pictures, or record audio.
- Format table cells, or merge them.
Limits
Notr enforces NoteSpace's limits, so everything it writes can be opened there.

An edit that would break a limit is refused with a message, and the page stays as it was.
