Changelog
All notable changes to Notr. This file was written after 1.0.1, from the commit history; the entries for 1.0.1 are the review fixes made since 1.0.0.
[1.0.1] - 2026-10-03
Fixed
- A failing save is reported once, not on every autosave; ⌘S reports it again.
- Typed text keeps the style the editor showed. The note's runs are committed with the text instead of being guessed from a text diff.
- Edit menu Cut, Copy and Paste work on selected notes as well as on text.
- Return and Escape work in the table dialog, also for rows and columns added later.
- Space-to-pan resets when the page loses focus or the window is deactivated.
- PNG export rasterizes in the background, layers pictures between notes in block order as on screen, and marks pictures that cannot be decoded.
- Markdown export escapes Markdown and HTML, writes bold, italic, strikethrough and safe links per run, and no longer turns empty bold notes into rules.
- Text import: headings and to-dos can start a new text container without blank lines before them.
- Importing a backup keeps the current view settings, as undo and redo do, and a replaced workspace is tracked in the session history so undo and redo work correctly. Importing a NoteSpace backup now enforces unique version IDs: Notr keys versions by ID, and NoteSpace does not require them to be unique.
- Long emoji titles and copies fit: titles are shortened by UTF-16 units.
- Pasted table text with stray quotes is kept as plain text.
- Timestamps keep .NET's seven fractional digits.
- Clear messages for a full recycle bin and for pages too large to version.
- The 32 MiB interchange limit counts characters on import and export alike.
- Page edits are validated more strictly, and Unicode text is handled correctly.
- The database: loading reads in one transaction, migrations take the write lock and recheck the version, and the switch to WAL is retried when another process is opening the same new database.
Changed
- Undo and redo are one set of actions: ⌘Z, ⌘⇧Z, ⌘Y and the Edit menu behave alike, and formatting a note while editing it makes undo go to the page history first.
[1.0.0] - 2026-09-28
The first release of Notr: a notebook for macOS, written in Rust, with notebooks, section groups, sections and pages with subpages, and free-form pages of text, to-dos, tables, pictures, attachments and ink. A port of NoteSpace (C#/Uno) to GPUI, with the workspace kept in SQLite.
Added
- The workspace: a ribbon, notebook and page panes, a free-form page surface, and a note editor with rich text, to-dos, tables, pictures, attachments and ink.
- Search and Replace All across notebooks, a page keeps its 20 most recent versions, and deleted pages go to a recycle bin.
- Saving and export: the workspace is kept in a SQLite database in
~/Library/Application Support/Notr/notr.dband saved as you work. Pages export as Markdown, HTML or PNG, and.notespacebackups are NoteSpace's JSON, so backups move between the two apps. - No network connections. Notr has no account, no sync and no telemetry.
