0.5.2 — 5 October 2026

Files

  • Quick Look. The space bar shows the selected files in Quick Look, as in Finder, and the panel follows the selection as it moves. Files on the server are downloaded for it first, up to 64 MB.
  • Copy and Paste. ⌘C and ⌘V between the panes and with Finder: pasted on the server it uploads, on this Mac it downloads, and within one side it copies, on the server with the server's own cp. Nothing is replaced; a copy beside its original is called “… copy”.
  • Drag out to Finder. Files dragged out of either pane can be dropped in Finder or any app that takes files; files on the server are downloaded where they land.
  • Filter. ⌘F shows only the items whose names contain what you type.
  • Type to select. Typing a name selects the item it starts, as in Finder.
  • New File (⌥⌘N) makes an empty file, here or on the server.

Fixes

  • Renaming or moving a file on this Mac never replaces another. A rename to a name already taken, or a move onto a file by the same name, replaced that file without a word; now it says the name is taken, as on the server.
  • Delete on this Mac works on every disk. Items go to the system's Trash, the right one for their disk, and Put Back returns them to where they were. Before, deleting from another disk failed.

0.5.1 — 5 October 2026

Fixes

  • Editing a file survives a reconnect. A file open for editing uploaded each save over the connection it was opened on, so after the connection dropped and came back, saving it failed. Saves now go up over the connection as it is.

0.5.0 — 5 October 2026

Updates

  • etrans keeps itself up to date. Once a day it asks elyracode.com/etrans whether there is a newer version and offers it in a strip under the toolbar, with Install, What's New and Later. Nothing is fetched until you press Install, and the download must match its published checksum and be signed with etrans's Developer ID before it replaces anything. Relaunch starts the new version. See Updates and About.
  • Check for Updates… is in the etrans menu, and the daily check can be turned off in Settings.

About

  • etrans → About etrans shows the version, what etrans is built with, and where updating stands.

This is the first version that updates itself. From 0.4.0 or earlier, install it once from elyracode.com/etrans.

0.4.0 — 5 October 2026

Reconnecting

  • The connection comes back on its own. A connection that closes is noticed within two seconds, and one that goes silent across sleep within about half a minute. etrans gets it back with growing pauses between attempts, keeps the server pane in its folder, starts the port forwards again, and carries on the transfers the break interrupted. Try Now and Disconnect are in the strip. See Reconnecting.
  • A password typed for the connection is remembered for the window, so getting it back does not ask again. A refused login or host key stops the trying.

Servers

  • Search. The quick-connect field searches the saved servers as you type; ↑ and ↓ choose and Return connects. When nothing saved matches, Return connects to what you typed.
  • Groups. A server can be given a group, and the cards are listed under their groups.
  • Import from ~/.ssh/config and from Transmit's SFTP favorites, with + beside SERVERS. Only where to connect comes over, never a password. See Servers.

0.3.0 — 5 October 2026

Transfers

  • Transfers survive interruptions. Every file is written to a hidden partial file and only takes the real one's place when it is whole. A file that fails part way is tried again from where it stopped; what is left after that is kept, and Retry or Retry All carries on from there. Stopping a transfer yourself deletes its partial file. See Transfers.
  • The drawer says how much of a finished transfer was picked up where it stopped.

Settings

  • Settings (⌘,): light, dark or as the system; the terminal's font, size and scrollback; where the local pane opens and whether hidden files show; how many transfers run at once, what to do when a file is already there, and how many times to try again. See Settings.

0.2.0 — 5 October 2026

Security

  • Host certificates. An @cert-authority line in ~/.ssh/known_hosts trusts a CA for the hosts it names; etrans asks for a certificate only when a CA covers the host and accepts it only when that CA signed it, as a host certificate, for this host, in date. See Host keys and certificates.
  • known_hosts is read as OpenSSH reads it: wildcards, ! negation, hashed names, and @revoked, which refuses a key for every host. The line number in the changed-key message is now the one your editor shows.

Files

  • Owner and group can be changed in Get Info, by name or number, for several items or a folder and everything in it. See Get Info.

Servers

  • Choose… beside the key field lists the private keys in ~/.ssh with their type and comment; Other… opens the file panel. The local folder has a Choose… too.

0.1.0 — 5 October 2026

The first release.

  • Two panes and the transfers underneath: drag between them, from Finder onto the server, or ⇧⌘→ and ⇧⌘←. Whole folders with real progress, and Replace, Skip or Keep Both when a file is already there.
  • Saved servers, with passwords and passphrases in Keychain, and quick connect with user@host:port.
  • Logging in with the agent, keys, a password or one-time codes; host keys checked against ~/.ssh/known_hosts; ~/.ssh/config aliases.
  • Jump hosts, one or a chain, and ProxyJump.
  • Editing files on the server: open, save, and it goes back up.
  • A terminal on the server, ⌘T.
  • Port forwarding: local, remote and SOCKS, saved per server.
  • Get Info with permissions.
  • Right-click menus on files, folders, empty space and servers.
  • sftp:// and ssh:// links, and -J, -L, -R and -D on the command line.
  • Signed with a Developer ID and notarized.
